Published: February 7, 2020 Clarifications Regarding Fingerprint Requirements The Veterinary Medical Board is currently experiencing significant delays in processing renewal applications involving unmatched fingerprint results. Pursuant to Business and Professions Code section 121 , if you have met all renewal requirements prior to license expiration, including submitting fingerprints to the Department of Justice as required under CCR section 2010.05 , you will not be deemed to have expired or illegally engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine pending receipt of evidence of license renewal. Make sure to retain your copy of your Live Scan form from submitting your fingerprints as evidence of completing the fingerprint requirement prior to license expiration. Published: February 6, 2020 FDA Issues Warning Letters for Illegally Selling CBD Products The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued warning letters to 15 companies for illegally selling products containing cannabidiol (CBD) in ways that violate the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). Violations include marketing unapproved new human and animal drugs, selling CBD products as dietary supplements, and adding CBD to human and animal foods. The 11/25/19 FDA press release is available. For information on the use of CBD products in animals in California, the Board's recently released Guidelines for Veterinarian Discussion of Cannabis Within the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship is available. Published: December 19, 2019 Veterinary Medical Board - Sunset Review Report Published: December 2, 2019 Guidelines for Veterinarian Discussion of Cannabis Within the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship. Published: November 15, 2019 Project Green Initiative Effective May 15, 2019, the Veterinary Medical Board is starting the Project Green Initiative and eliminating the multiple page paper renewal notice. The Board will only send out a one-page renewal notification directing all licensees to renew via BreEZe online. Published: June 6, 2019 California Veterinary Technician Examination (CVTE) No Longer Required On April 17, 2019, the Veterinary Medical Board unapproved the current CVTE for Registered Veterinarian Technician (RVT) applicants. Passing the CVTE is no longer required in order to be licensed as an RVT. Published: April 22, 2019 Subject Matter Experts Needed The Examination Development Program is seeking currently licensed California veterinarians actively living and working in California to help write and review test questions for the California State Board Examination. Published: April 19, 2019 Available Continuing Education (CE) Courses Regarding Antimicrobial Drugs Beginning on January 1, 2018, in order to renew a veterinarian license, a licensee must complete a minimum of one credit hour of continuing education on the judicious use of medically important antimicrobial drugs every four years. Published: March 13, 2019 AB 149 (Cooper) Transition Period for Prescription Form Requirements Effective March 11, 2019 AB 149. (Cooper) was signed into law by the Governor on March 11, 2019 and takes effect immediately. Published: March 13, 2019 New Drug Consultation Requirements Pursuant to Senate Bill 1480 (Hill, Chapter 571, Statutes of 2018), effective January 1, 2019, veterinarians are required to offer to provide drug consultations for dangerous drugs (Business and Professions Code (BPC) Section 4829.5).
